Green Light for Alton Green

The Mayor of London has given Wandsworth Borough Council the green light to move forward with the regeneration of the Alton Estate in Roehampton into a thriving mixed-use urban neighbourhood.

The regeneration masterplan led by Hawkins\Brown is founded on the Alton Area Masterplan and Roehampton SPD and focuses on making an accessible, sustainable and characterful setting that successfully stitches into the existing surroundings. The essence of what makes the Alton Estate unique is retained, with new community spaces and facilities spread around the masterplan to widen access and benefit as many people as possible.

The multi-phased regeneration will deliver around 1,100 new homes together with significant community facilities and open spaces, including a new library and community hub, retail spaces, a youth centre, GP surgery, nursery and children centre.

Enhancing the landscape, public and private realm for people and the natural world is a fundamental part of the regeneration. This includes 733 new trees, 2249 cycle spaces, 5760m² of play provision with two major play spaces, tree-lined streets, five pocket parks, 14 residential courtyards, an active public village square and extensive urban greening with 1.6HA of biodiverse roofs.
