Gillespies wins New Glasgow Hospital Project

Gillespies has been appointed as masterplanner and landscape designer for the new Glasgow Southern General Hospital.

Gillespies and architects Nightingale Associates were part of the winning team led by construction firm Brookfield Europe. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said the 'inspiring' design was unanimously agreed to be the outstanding contender from 3 strong bids and represented the best value for money.

The 14-floor hospital, which is expected to treat 110,000 patients every year, will be built on the site of the existing Southern General Hospital. It will have one of the biggest emergency departments in Scotland, 1,109 beds in single-room accommodation and 20 state-of-the-art operating theatres.

The development is due for completion in 2015.
