Gillespies supporting Headway in 2011

Mike Sharp, Partner at Gillespies and Acting Chair of Headway Leeds, a branch of Headway UK the brain injury association, is pleased to congratulate Max Muteliso, 29 from Alwoodley, Leeds, who has been named Headway Achiever of the Year 2011.

Following a car accident in 2002, Max was hospitalised in a coma for a month, then started eight months of rehabilitation before beginning the long road back to independence.  He had to fight to regain everyday skills. Despite being largely wheelchair dependant and having continuing problems with memory, concentration and speech, Max graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University this year and has now embarked on a post-graduate course. Max also spends his spare time helping others at Headway Leeds and is an active national awareness campaigner.

This photograph shows Max on a recent Headway Leeds day out to Scarborough. Mike Sharp says: "One of the biggest challenges facing brain injury survivors is social isolation. At headway Leeds we try to encourage our members into developing social contact skills through group events at venues throughout the city and trips such as this one. All our survivor members and their carers have said how valuable this is and how much they enjoy these activities"

Gillespies is delighted to be supporting Headway as our official charity for December 2011.
