Gillespies shortlisted at 2020 Planning Awards
Gillespies is delighted to be a finalist at this year’s Planning Awards in the ‘Planning for the Natural Environment’ category for our Shropshire Landscape and Visual Sensitivity work.
The awards, which are run by Planning Resource Magazine, reward excellence in professional planning work as well as related placemaking and economic development activity.
Gillespies was commissioned by Shropshire Council to prepare a landscape and visual sensitivity assessment for the county of Shropshire. The study assesses the landscape and visual sensitivity of land around 66 settlements across Shropshire for new housing and employment development. Its aim was to ensure that development was targeted to the most appropriate locations, with the most valuable and beautiful landscapes protected.
As a landscape-led strategic planning study, the sensitivity assessment underpins Shropshire Council’s understanding of the relationship of long-term placemaking with well-being, health, sustainability and the natural environment. This project has empowered Shropshire Council to be more confident - publicly, visually, quantitatively and strategically - in achieving this goal. The outputs of the study are being be used to positively influence all aspects of the decision making process, which will ultimately contribute to ensuring that Shropshire’s towns and villages grow sustainably, and that development in the right place is supported.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony that will take place on 24th September in London.
