Elephant Springs wins RoSPA Play Safety Award for Publicly Accessible Playgrounds

We are thrilled to announce that Elephant Springs, our immersive playable landscape at the heart of The Park within Elephant Park, has won The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Play Safety Awards for ‘publicly accessible playgrounds’, held at the RoSPA’s 2022 Play Safety Conference.

Created from 300 tons of Italian porphyry stone, chosen for its hard-wearing and slip-resistant properties when wet, Elephant Springs is somewhere for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy - an urban oasis crafted from water, rock and sand, featuring fountains, waterfalls and slides. The playscape has been designed to encourage safe but adventurous play that will delight, challenge and excite children and adults alike, where all the senses – smell, sight, touch and sound are simultaneously stimulated.

The shortlisted schemes were selected from sites inspected in the previous year by RoSPA and were assessed by the Inspector as having an “Excellent” play value.

When considering play value, RoSPA considers the range of children who might use the space, the features offered, the play experiences provided, the general ambience of the site and the quality and quantity of the play provision.

In the case of Elephant Springs, the scheme was voted the winner as it “provides excellent play value to a wide range of children, incorporating natural features such as sand and water play, into the built and landscaped environment.”

A huge congratulations to our client Lendlease, artist Mel Chantrey of The Fountain Workshop and the rest of the design team.
