Crossrail Place Roof Garden 'Highly Commended' at the 2016 Landscape Institute Awards

Crossrail Place Roof Garden was 'Highly Commended' at the 2016 Landscape Institute Awards in the 'Design for a small scale development' category.

Crossrail Place Roof Garden is the first benefit of the Crossrail project - London's new east-west rail link. The long slender garden - containing a variety of plants from across the globe - sits above Canary Wharf Crossrail Station and Crossrail Place shopping centre, beneath a semi-permeable timber lattice roof designed by Foster + Partners.

The judges commented: "The landscape scheme is as much a part of the building as the elegant roof structure and addresses and embraces some difficult technical challenges. The designers based their designs on the idea of biophilia (love of the living world), providing a rare space where visitors can interact with nature at high level."

Now in their 11th Year, The Landscape Institute Awards are a celebration and recognition of the outstanding and most innovative projects to have shaped, restored and protected the natural and built environment.
