City Park Gate designs are granted planning permission

Birmingham’s City Park Gate development is set to move onto the next stage after planning permission was granted.

The site - the subject of a major regeneration initiative - provides an important strategic link between the city centre and the location of Birmingham’s large City Park. The planning permission relates to the first phase of the development, which is approximately 200,000 square foot located to the south of the site. Gillespies has prepared a site landscape masterplan which is composed of 22,000 square foot of public space including a new plaza and a pedestrian street and incorporates changes to Freeman Place, Freeman Street and New Freeman Street. A new green space with the potential for a café building has also been included and ramped access will offset a steep level change across the site.

Gillespies’ project partner Stephen Richards says: “It’s great this development is progressing. We support the vision for the site and the potential to create a major public space within the city."
