Bristol Temple Meads redevelopment proposals on track

International urban designer Gillespies, supported by Associated Architects and Mouchel Parkman, has completed a study for a high profile project that will help transform a prominent and historic area in Bristol city centre.

The Bristol Temple Meads Development Feasibility Study sets out the design and development proposals for an area of land known as Plot 6, located to the north of Bristol Temple Meads station and jointly owned by the South West of England Regional Development Agency and Network Rail.

The masterplan and site design guidance presented in the plan is the culmination of a series of studies undertaken by the team to realise an inspirational and deliverable development for the site. In the report, Gillespies is proposing the creation of a series of major public spaces and mixed-uses to include commercial office, retail and residential. These will be focused around new public squares at Clock Tower Yard outside the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum, Brunel Square as part of a northern access to Temple Meads Station through the Digby Wyatt shed, and the Brunel Mile - a pedestrian route from the SS Great Britain to Temple Meads.

Following the completion of the feasibility study, The South West of England Regional Development Agency and Network Rail have appointed Gillespies and its team to advise on proposals that have been submitted by four short-listed developers.
