An enchanted evening at The Piece Hall

On Saturday 2nd September, The Piece Hall’s reimagined courtyard hosted the ‘Enchanted Chandelier’, an international award-winning spectacle originally created by Gilles Rhode for the French Aerial Transe Express.

Gillespies attended the mesmerising display which involved fire-wielding acrobats, trapeze artists and musicians – suspended on a huge musical chandelier - performing 50m above the ground.

The Grade 1 listed Piece Hall reopened on 1st August 2017, following a multi-million-pound restoration project. Working closely with LDN Architects, Calderdale Council, Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Historic England, Gillespies delivered a courtyard space and new public realm that is historically responsive and appropriate to its extraordinary architectural setting. The courtyard has been reimagined into an attractive, open and accessible ‘Town Square’ that offers a contemporary and flexible space for an established seasonal programme of events and festivals.
