A new living wall for Victoria Square

Gillespies has supported green wall specialists ANS Global in delivering a brand new living wall as part of the multi-million-pound transformation of Woking town centre, a joint venture between Woking Borough Council and shopping centre owner and investor, Moyallen Group with main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine. Victoria Square is a key part of the wider town centre masterplan, providing new retail, residential, hotel and public spaces.

The green wall is positioned on the façade of the new car park entrance designed by McAlpine Design Group, close to the newly built Hilton Hotel. In coordination with ANS Global, Gillespies provided outline design, layout and planting selection, ensuring the right species were considered for the sites specific light and shade levels to achieve a healthy and visually pleasing design.

Plants include evergreen, deciduous and perennials to ensure colour and interest all year round. These species have been selected to maximise biodiversity and capture the greatest particulates to improve air quality around this busy town centre hub.
