Senior Associate Landscape Architect - London, UK – Permanent full-time role + hybrid working

The Role:

Gillespies has an exciting opportunity for a design-focused Senior Associate Landscape Architect to join the London Studio on a permanent basis. The Senior Associate will lead and manage a multidisciplinary team (made of Associates, Principals, Senior Landscape Architects, Landscape Architects and Graduates) in order to deliver high-level concept design for UK and International projects and grow our portfolio with new business acquisitions. Therefore, the successful candidate will be an experienced landscape professional who can operate at a senior level, demonstrating a wide range of project experience and an excellent track record in design and project delivery.

Key aspects of the role:

  • Develop creative design ideas in collaboration with the team
  • Oversee and lead a number of projects at all design stages
  • Proactively support business development activities including bidding, preparing fee proposals, as well as networking and client relations
  • Chair key meetings to review the quality and progress of the project
  • Create and maintain all project fee resource plans, monitor costs and deliver projects within a set budget
  • Protect profitability or mitigate the liability of the Practice, informing relevant Partners of problems regarding construction, cost or design standards & recommend feasible solutions
  • Ensure all projects are adequately resourced and delegate project tasks
  • Ensure cross-fertilisation and sharing of experience and technical knowledge across management teams
  • Check all documentation in for final sign-off and distribution, ensuring compliance with QA protocol & CAD standards
  • Identify training needs of team members and mentor them; motivate, encourage and support members of staff
  • Lead bid submissions with the support of the marketing and graphics team
  • Assist with the recruitment and selection of new employees
  • Take ownership of the development, character & function of the respective office
  • Raise the practice profile through conferences, education and media participation

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 12 years of professional working experience in the sector
  • Fully Professionally qualified – Chartered Member of LI (CMLI) or equivalent
  • Ability to chair high-level external meetings
  • Previous experience in leading and managing multiple from medium to large-scale project delivery from concept to completion
  • Ability to liaise with external consultants and clients in a proficient and professional manner, nurturing relationships in support of ongoing business development
  • Strong knowledge of financial indicators and financial aspects of the project, including project resourcing, managing project budgets and costs
  • Excellent project management skills, strong leadership (managed a team of landscape architects) and organisation
  • Have a strong foundation in cross-disciplinary coordination
  • Ability to lead complex packages
  • Ability to work well under pressure
