Tom Walker started his career with Gillespies in 1989 and is now based in Gillespies’ Leeds office. He has significant experience as a landscape architect and urban designer in both the public and private sectors, specialising in urban revitalisation and masterplanning, park restoration, urban public realm design, renewable energy, and public transport infrastructure.
He has a particular skill in collaborative working with clients, fellow professionals, stakeholders, and the wider community, ensuring proposals are both holistic and sustainable.
Tom works across the full professional spectrum — from strategic spatial design and urban visioning, through to policy formulation, master planning, detailed design, and environmental assessment. He is also an accomplished expert witness, having appeared in over 20 planning inquiries covering urban design, landscape, and visual effects.
Tom was chair of the Leeds Beckett University LI advisory panel for 4 years and has sat on many regional design panels. In 2016, Tom was made an ‘Ambassador for Landscape’ by the Landscape Institute, a recognition of his contribution to raising the profile of the landscape architecture profession.
