Maria Aksarina is a highly experienced urban designer with an architectural and planning background. She has over 8 years of professional experience in the delivery of masterplanning, urban design, strategic planning and visioning projects.
Since joining Gillespies in 2017, Maria has been instrumental in the delivery of a range of masterplans of various scales and complexities and strategic regional planning projects in Saudi Arabia, Russia and the UK. Most recently, Maria contributed to the delivery of a masterplan and vision for A101 Territories, a complex analysis, economic and planning exercise for a 2500-hectare development in New Moscow, Russia. She has also delivered urban design guidelines for a number of mixed-used residential-led schemes, city extensions and regeneration projects in the UK.
Maria’s professional interest lies with placemaking and designing lively and vibrant public spaces and strong community hubs. Her Master’s thesis ‘Public Spaces & Quality of Urban Life’ was awarded an RTPI prize.
