Jim Gibson is an exceptionally experienced landscape architect with a remarkable career spanning 30 years at Gillespies. As the Regional Partner of Gillespies’ Manchester studio, Jim leads the north region’s landscape and environmental planning work, as well as its business operations.

Jim has unparalleled experience in delivering exceptional, well-considered landscape design, masterplanning and landscape planning projects across all major industry sectors. His clients and collaborators seek his expertise because of his ability to deliver ambitious visions with practicality and focused execution.

Jim is committed to delivering sustainable design solutions and creating natural environments that support health and wellbeing and foster social interaction. He has been pivotal in steering Gillespies’ approach to sustainable design and has been spearheading the firm’s internal carbon assessment.

As the practice’s registered assessor with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), Jim is highly skilled in interpreting technical briefs and managing the delivery and coordination of complex landscape assessments, visual appraisals and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA ). He has coordinated and supported environmental impact assessments for a wide range of infrastructure projects, including overhead transmission and distribution lines, wind farms, pipelines, highways, airports and new built town and city developments.

One of Jim’s most notable projects is the incredibly successful MediaCityUK. Under his leadership, the empty dockyard in Salford was transformed into a global media hub and vibrant waterfront community. Jim's visionary approach and expertise in public realm development played a pivotal role in creating this dynamic and innovative space, which is widely regarded as a benchmark for sustainability.
