Irem is an experienced and versatile landscape architect with a passion for the built environment. She is interested in how the careful integration of nature into our cities can create a more liveable, enjoyable and sustainable world.
Originally from Turkey, Irem worked on a wide range of highly complex projects in Istanbul, notably airport projects, mixed-use developments and nature reserve parks, before joining Gillespies in 2017. Since joining the practice, she has collaborated on projects ranging from large-scale urban realms for major infrastructure projects to smaller-scale, more detailed public spaces and gardens for residential developments.
With experience working in Turkey, Russia and the UK, Irem’s work covers all key design stages, from conceptual design through to construction, giving her a comprehensive understanding of the lifecycle of a project. Key projects include designing adaptable and memorable public spaces for the Thames Tideway Project in London, developing a design code for Oxpens in Oxford, contributing to the Discovery Park mixed-use scheme in Moscow for MR Group, and crafting a strategic masterplan for a new 7,500-home garden community in Colchester.
