William (Bill) Basterfield has over 15 years’ experience of design and project management on a broad range of schemes including large urban townscape, retail destinations, civic spaces and public realm studies, wayfinding and signage design, in the UK and internationally. He has a strong interest in contemporary urban landscape design and how people navigate through places.
Bill's international project experience includes landscape design and masterplanning for Port Baku retail schemes in Azerbaijan, Krasnaya Roza and other commercial business parks in Moscow, Putrajaya National Convention Centre in Malaysia, Snegiri Eco an exclusive residential neighbourhood in Moscow.
Major public realm projects in the UK where William has been a pivotal part of the landscape design team include Paddington Basin Redevelopment in London; the Royal William Yard residential and mixed-use development in Plymouth, Birmingham City Centre Metro Extension and Walsall Civic Quarter.
Bill also plays a central role in several landscape design projects for the health and education sectors for Gillespies. This extensive experience includes campus design for DeMontfort University in Leicester; Coventry University campuses and also design for school environments such as the award-winning Bath Three Ways School.
