Middlesbrough Town Centre Renaissance

The clients' put the brief simply: “…to create design solutions in Middlesbrough comparable to anywhere in the country”.

To achieve their aim Gillespies was appointed as design partner for the town centre to prepare proposals to develop the town's commercial and retail heart.  Creating environments that encourage positive activities, support the economy and foster an identity of a place were a focal point of the work. 

Gillespies work is seen as an important part of the wider town centre regeneration initiative: the overall aims being to help Middlesbrough improve the quality of its environment; to implement a coherent and consistent design strategy; and to establish standards for quality.
