Glasgow City Centre Public Realm Strategy
If conspicuous improvements to the appearance of the city's public buildings were to be properly complemented, the public realm needed to catch up.
It was important to enhance Glasgow‘s urban environment to create a sustainable city of the highest quality – a critical goal if Glasgow was to realise the aim of becoming a great European City. The Glasgow City Centre Public Realm Strategy and Guidelines, by Gillespies, lays out a holistic and sustainable approach, which benefits the whole community. Design principles and guidelines were established for all street elements including surfaces, street furniture, signage, soft landscape, lighting, water and public art.
