Three Houses, Wimbledon
This proposed development of three contemporary houses in one London's most prestigious residential areas continues the practice's involvement in innovative courtyard housing.
The overall development has a single point of access with the individual houses aligned along a shared driveway. The house types are arranged around three enclosed courtyard spaces each defined by a series of stone walls which extend from the base of the buildings. By exploiting the existing slope across the site in the arrangement of the dwellings it has been possible to ensure each courtyard garden is not overlooked. A communal garden space provides a transition between the houses and the surrounding parkland landscape. The courtyards form the roof to the leisure areas and have to take account of the restricted loading requirements. By introducing a simple palette of natural stone paved surfaces, lawn, and raised planting beds the courtyard layouts can be individually arranged to meet the particular requirements of each owner. A single specimen tree is located within each space.
