Urban Transportation
The emergence of trams and quality buses in our cities and towns in the last twenty years has been universally popular with the public and often successful in commercial terms.
Manchester's Metrolink is a good example. However, their introduction, and sometimes re-introduction, presents challenging urban design and townscape issues.
Gillespies acts as urban designer, landscape architect and/or environmental assessor in multi-disciplinary teams specialising in finding and planning routes through the urban fabric, then ensuring their integration into the street scene. Our role has included design and assessment of schemes and then subsequent attendance at Parliamentary Inquiries.
