University of Central England, Birmingham

The University of Central England's Westbourne Campus is located in Birmingham's leafy district of Edgbaston, within an important conservation area with an attractive population of mature tress.

Gillespies was appointed with Associated Architects to masterplan the redesign of the eastern section of the Campus. Work included an extensive refitting and extension to the main educational block on site to include a new library. The mature landscape setting was considered an important component of the design for this very attractive and green University Campus. A layout was produced which retained much of the existing tree population while rationalising circulation and way finding for pedestrians and vehicular traffic.
