East India Harbour, Greenock
Built in the early 19th century, the harbour was, as its name suggests, designed to accommodate East India Trade. Having since fallen into disrepair, the largely derelict site was in need of a comprehensive re-development.
Gillespies undertook an urban design and presentational commission to develop certain facilities, which include a restaurant complex and hotel. The masterplan exploits the potential of the riverside and harbour frontage, creating pedestrian quayside activities for cafés and floating exhibits. Future possible expansion into adjacent quays was also incorporated into the plan.
