Demand for electricity in some areas of Cheshire was so high it meant that, in some circumstances, the network was becoming overloaded, a situation which could have resulted in power cuts to sixty thousand customers.
To resolve the situation, Manweb proposed the building of a twenty one kilometre wood pole overhead line between two of its main substations at Carrington to Lostock. Gillespies‘ undertook and prepared a line routing study and consultation document which considered the potential visual, landscape and environmental effects of a number of route options and, following extensive consultation, recommended a preferred route.
Following the selection of the preferred route an environmental statement was prepared, which included computer generated photomontage illustrations that gave a photo realistic impression of the power line proposal.
