Beauly to Denny Transmission Line Routing Study
To accommodate an increased number of wind farms being built in remote locations, the infrastructure carrying the electricity from Beauly, west of Inverness, to Denny, near Stirling, needed to be upgraded.
Over one hundred and sixty three miles of the most sensitive landscapes in Scotland needed to be considered as a corridor for the potential line. Gillespies task was to identify the route with the least possible environmental impact.
It was the largest overhead transmission line routeing study ever undertaken in Scotland and required a very extensive consultation process incorporating several different Local Authorities, Scottish Natural Heritage, Historic Scotland, The Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland, Community Groups, wildlife organisations and many others.
