An enhanced landscape setting for the redevelopment of the District General Hospital at Walsgrave, Coventry, as part of the Government’s PFI programme.
The redevelopment will provide a new acute hospital building together with therapy buildings and a mental health resource.
Gillespies designed a series of brightly coloured sensory courtyards to provide a range of visual and sensory experiences for patients — a key part of patient recuperation and therapy.
Gillespies' remit also involved landscape design, boundary treatments and the resolution of floodplain issues together with the design and construction of routes for pedestrian and vehicular access, circulation and parking.
