Wigan Promotes Estate Regeneration in Worsley Mesnes

Wigan Council and Wigan and Leigh Homes are promoting the transformation of Worsley Mesnes Estate as part of the government’s estate regeneration programme. A key milestone was the Visioning Workshop that took place on the 20th January as part of a broader masterplan and delivery strategy being developed by award-winning design specialists Gillespies and delivery advisors Cushman & Wakefield. The event involved landowners, public sector bodies and representatives from the Department for Communities and Local Government, and explored key regeneration themes and opportunities raised at a local engagement exhibition which took place in 2016.

Emerging proposals will now be developed and tested as part of further formal engagement with the local community later in the year. Opportunities include environmental works, health initiatives and the attraction of a developer partner to build much-needed new homes as part of Wigan’s growth strategy.

Matt Roberts, Director of Assest Management and Development at Wigan and Leigh Homes commented; ‘It is exciting to have achieved this key milestone as part of a once in a lifetime opportunity to regenerate Worsley Mesnes, and we look forward to developing ideas further with local people and potential developer partners.’
