Plans submitted for the Sir Henry Royce Institute in Manchester

Gillespies has supported NBBJ Architects in submitting a planning application for the Sir Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials in Manchester on behalf of The University of Manchester.

Gillespies is delivering a new landscape setting to support the new Institute which sits on a plot off Booth Street, between the Alan Turing Building on Upper Brook Street and the Aquatic Centre on Oxford Road.

The landscape concept provides an attractive and impressive setting for the new building that creates a strong sense of arrival. A new urban plaza marks the entry to the Institute, surrounded by lawned areas that offer spaces for informal gatherings. Improved linkages integrate the new Institute into the wider campus landscape and connect the building to the existing greenspaces and public realm.

The new institute is expected to complete and open to students in mid-2019.
